What is news

28 February

L.O. to explore the concept and format of news

There are tons of different types of news, for example:

Climate, Politics, UK, International, Business, Entertainment and Arts, Science, Health, Sport, Weather, Education, Wellbeing, Celebrity, Human interest, Local, Family.

    Climate                                              Politics

    Business                                             Health

Fake News

Fake news: false information used to shape your views, opinions or ideas. The information is often exaggerated heavily biased or simply not true. It is often intentionally misleading. It can also be known as propaganda.

I think people write and spread fake news to create an influence over others and make a false impression of somebody / something else. Quite often fake news is spread as a way to sell or make profit as it sparks an interest in the public and in the reader/ viewer.

14 March

L.O. to write an effective news report; to practice interview questions.

The Willow Project

What happened / what is it?  A 30 year scheme, aiming to produce 180,000 barrels of oil a day.

Who is involved? Joe Biden / the Biden administration.

Where does it take place?  Alaska, in the national petroleum reserve.

When did it happen?  The company began the permitting process to develop Willow in 2018, but it has  been in the news a lot recently because the planning for it go forward has just been permitted.

Why did it happen?

Bodmin Jail Anchor  -  Good evening. Tonight on BBC Bodmin, we will hear of the devastating fire at the newly refurbished Bodmin Jail. The fire started last night at 11:15, and carried on for 7 hours until it was completely extinguished at 6:15 this morning, by the 3 fire engines dispatched from Bodmin stations. The main cell block is badly damaged, and "the cost of rebuilding will run into millions", we hear from PC Smith. 2 of the 6 that were rescued by firefighters have been rushed into hospital, 1 with serious burns. Investigations into the cause of the fire are continuing.                  29 seconds

School Uniform

Main Report

Just before Easter, students, parents and teachers at Bodmin College were sent a survey regarding the change of uniform going ahead in the new school year. Questions included opinions about the new school uniform, with images helping the students and parents get an understanding of what it will look like.

The main changes will be a conversion from black skirts and trousers to grey, along with new blazers and potentially different ties. New expectations will also include that the students do not wear white socks, and there has also been mention of changing footwear regulations.

Many have been saying the new uniform has come about due to Bodmin College recently joining a new school multi academy trust, meaning we will be seeing many more similarities with other local schools. Students and some teachers are concerned about the new uniform - but the changes don't stop there. 4 lessons a day are being introduced into the teachers and peers timetable rather than their usual 3 lessons. Today we will hear more from head of year 7, Miss Taylor, and year 9 student Jaydon about these developing changes.

Interview Questions

Could you explain why you are changing the uniform?

What is your personal opinion about the new uniform?

Are the prices that parents have to pay a worry?

Do you think the current school uniform isn't smart or representative enough for Bodmin college?
